In Alberta, you can see a chiropractor for a motor vehicle injury without seeing a doctor first. You are entitled to chiropractic treatment after a motor vehicle accident (MVA) through the Diagnostic Treatment Protocols Regulation (DTPR) (covering 10-21 treatments) and Section B benefits, regardless of fault. To access these benefits, you must report the accident to your insurer, file the required AB-1 form, and see a chiropractor for assessment within 10 days. Chiropractors can bill your insurer directly, so you won't pay out-of-pocket for the initial treatment under the protocols.
